As hybrid work becomes part of many options for how employees can deliver value to an organization as a true human resource asset, the people side of the equation is now getting the attention it deserves.  As Jon Clifton at HBR writes in this article, researchers have found that having a friend at work has more to do with productivity, retention, and the attitude that workers bring to each workday than previously thought.  

Our take: YES, employers should be working to accommodate the needs of its entire workforce, including providing in-office/remote/hybrid working environment AND providing opportunities to facilitate friendships.  And, YES, it’s extra work for the managers and HR professionals – but so worth it.
